3D Laser Scanning of Machines and Machine Shops
When converting existing machines or relocating or repositioning existing machines within a machine shop or to other locations, precise machine data is required, especially for complex systems, to avoid design errors and collisions. Corresponding 3D CAD data is often missing, and existing 2D CAD or paper drawings are usually incomplete.
By scanning the actual existing system with a mobile 3D laser scanner and then creating, refining, and transferring a 3D point cloud of the machine to the 3D CAD program, system dimensions can be determined with high accuracy. Furthermore, further design work can be carried out directly on the actual 3D point cloud.
The data obtained from the 3D laser scan can be reused at any time to subsequently check for missing dimensions. The data can also be shared or used in (online) meetings to discuss the retrofit measures in detail.
